Dan Cummings
Posted October 3, 2009 by kristenarnwineCategories: Uncategorized
Wednesday night Dan Cummings appeared in the Russell Union ballroom for yet another 5-star comedy show. The show was free for any students or faculty who wanted to come get a good laugh. The ballroom was almost a full house, and the second Cummings was handed a microphone, laughter erupted from the students and faculty and didn’t stop until the show was over.
Dan Cummings’s jokes are based on adult humor. He derives some of his jokes from his childhood growing up in rural Idaho, while other jokes would be considered topical humor. He was able to relate a lot of his jokes to humor college students and young adults would like.
So, if you haven’t heard any jokes by Cummings you are probably thinking, “This guy must be pretty good.” Well you have a chance to finally watch him! He has been featured on television many times. Cummings first appeared on stage in August of 2000. He finished second in the 2001 Seattle International Comedy Competition. He is a contributor to the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Show and was featured on Bob & Tom’s 2002 Best of CD Bob & Tom Gone Wild. In 2003, Dan was a national semi-finalist in the Comedy Central Laugh Riots competition. In July 2005, Dan appeared at the New Faces show of the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. In May 2006, he appeared on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and in June made his network television debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. In November he performed at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.
He has been offered a chance to have his own segment on Comedy Central Presents. This is an amazing oppotunity for him to be on such a huge network, and he has definately deserved it. Check him out on Comedy Central-he’s worth it!

Did somebody say FREE?!
Posted September 23, 2009 by kristenarnwineCategories: Uncategorized
The Eagle Entertainment program board decided to gear their events towards students needs, and what better way to do it then to offer free putt-putt!?
Hackers, a local golf park in Statesboro, GA, decided to work with EE and allow students free putt-putt Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Hackers has the only lighted driving range in Statesboro located just off the bypass on Old Register Road (close to campus!). Hackers’ Twin Falls Miniature Golf Course was designed by Harris Miniature Golf Courses, Inc. For a closer look at the course, here is a picture of some of the putting greens:

Hackers also provides a driving range that has been named one of the Top 100 Ranges in America By Golf Range magazine! Along with putt-putt and a driving range, Hackers has batting cages and a clubhouse that offers 24 lanes of bowling, an arcade and redemption room, the 600 square foot Ballocity Playground, Laser Tag, a full restaurant, and more! If you can’t make it out today for free putt-putt, come out and enjoy all the Hackers has to offer.
Hours:
Mon – Thurs 10 am – 11 pm
Fri – Sat 10am – midnight
Sunday noon – 11 pm
Students only need to bring their Georgia Southern student ID for free entry. Putt-Putt starts at 7:00 p.m. EE hopes to see you there!

I ♥ NY
Posted September 16, 2009 by kristenarnwineCategories: Uncategorized
“In New York,
Concrete jungles where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York,
These streets will make you feel brand new,
The lights will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York”
For those of you who watched the 2009 VMAs just the other night, you might recognize these lyrics! For the finale performance, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys blew their audience away and were the musical highlight of the night singing “Empire State of Mind,” a song all about the beauty of New York intertwined with a rags-to-riches story. This song is from Jay-Z’s new album Blueprint 3.
I used this song as inspiration for this post. Eagle Entertainment hosts an annual trip, whether is is a weekend getaway to Tybee Island or Savannah (nearby) or an extended trip to a larger city. This year’s excursion will be in the fabulous NEW YORK CITY! Last year was also in NYC and turned out to be the trip of a lifetime for the students, so the members of the organization decided why not try round 2!?
EE sets an estimated price, usually a great, cheap offer for the student’s 4-day adventure to the Big Apple. It won’t ever cost more than $400, and that includes the bus ride down there. Since there are buses, however, there is limited seating so it is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Now, here might be your attention grabber, students! Upon arrival in NYC, students are allowed to do whatever they want! No mandatory check-in times, no curfew, no group tours of museums, etc. EE allows it to be a free-for-all trip, where students pay to do what they want! They are there to see the city THEIR way.
So, what’s the catch? Doesn’t seem like there is one! If you are interested in going, stop by the Office of Student Activities in the Russell Union to receive more information. There is an information meeting September 29 in the Russell Union Room 2084. The trip is scheduled to be Dec. 12-18. More details are to come out soon!

Are You True Blue?
Posted September 8, 2009 by kristenarnwineCategories: Uncategorized
Eagle Entertainment and it’s friendly neighbor, the Traditions Council, has set up a website off of the Georgia Southern mainpage. This website is dedicated to those who are considered to be “True Blue.” What is True Blue exactly? Well here is Eagle Entertainment’s definition:
true blue (troo bloo)- noun. A die-hard, enthusiastic lifetime supporter of Georgia Southern University.
Within this website, you can take fun quizzes, win free stuff, purchase merchandise, become a ‘fan of the week,’ and donate money! And the best part is…you don’t have to be enrolled in the university! People of all ages can enjoy this website and have fun being a Georgia Southern fan!
This is a fun and efficient way to help students and faculty get more excited about the new school year starting off, and to help lift people’s school spirit. The link to this website is featured on the front page of the University’s website, but for those of you who might be a little lazy here is the link so you can just zip right to it and check it out!
